Nikon Monarch 5 12×42 Binoculars are now built with Nikon’s ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lenses to compensate for chromatic aberrations. This provides images of improved contrast and resolution. The lead and arsenic free Eco-Glass lenses are fully multi-coated for higher light transmission, while the BaK-4 prisms have both phase-correction coatings and dielectric mirror coatings. Nikon also shaved nearly an ounce off of the weight of previous Monarch 5s, making them even lighter than before.
